GapiDraw vs PocketHal - speed comparison

Hello, I have started developing my own graphics API based on PocketHAL. I like that PocketHAL was very fast and it appeared faster than Microsoft GAPI, I used years ago.

However, recently I figured out, that PocketHAL is no more supported, and because I dont have full version, I think about moving to GAPIDRAW that would even save hours of developing my graphics libraries.

However, speed is on the fist place in my case. Could I knidly ask, if anybody knows how GapiDraw stands in comparison to PocketHAL? Is GapiDraw based on Micrsosoft GAPI from previous years, or did the GAPI Draw improved its speed from then?

Thank you and have a nice day,
Rene.

PocketHAL is still supported. Where did you hear / read it wasn't anymore?

Kzinti,

I have read that PocketHal 0.8 release source code was lost, and its gone forewer. I have read it in this forum. I took a look at http://pockethal.droneship.com/ and I saw its forums site is down and has not been maintainded for a long while. I have written to Thierry Tremblay emails on two different mailboxes, and I god no response and PocketHAL 0.77 that is available for download on PocketHAL homepage was there for about a year witout any modification, alghouth new PocketPCs are still appearing.

These observations suggested that PocketHal is not supported anymore, although a demoversion is still for download.

If you know anything new about future releases of PocketHAL, I would be glad to read.

With regards,
Rene.

PocketHAL 0.8 was the Palm Support. This was lost, yes.

PocketHAL 0.7.7 is still maintained / available. There are no plans for new features at this point, but fixes / updates for devices are released all the time (I would say every month).

Im fact, I am currently investigating an issue with the Samsung SGH-1300.

Hello Johan,

You said, GAPI can be soon removed from WindowsMobile devices. Yes, one of the reasons will be that WindowsMobile 5 devices support DirectX Mobile.

What about GapiDraw? What principle GapiDraw uses when to use GAPI and when to avoid it, and use its own framebuffer access? Indeed, have you compared GapiDraw to PocketHal, so I know wich library has faster framebuffer access? Or do they use amost identical code to access hardware of these devices?

With regards,
Rene.
