PocketSX for MIPS

PocketSX for MIPS

Postby esw » Jun 30, 2002 @ 12:09am

Ok, I really hate to post this kind of thing, but I am just curious; I'm not trying to pester you guys to do more work. :)

Does PocketSX use any ARM asm code? Is it realistic to hope to see PocketSX work on MIPS?
I know compared to ARM they are slow as heck, but some people can't afford to upgrade ;)

I understand this dynamic recompiler converts MIPS machine code for the playstation to ARM.. would it be easy to write a dynamic recompiler from psx MIPS to the MIPS used in casios?

Anyway, just thought it would be cool to know.

I'm the webmaster and I have a Casio E-125 MIPS. I'm not real eager to try to convert my playstation games to ISOs just to try out a slow emulator, I prefer my laptop when it comes to serious gaming like that.

I don't think R0B has plans to support MIPS devices as jadam is trying hard to learn everything he can about ARM ASM. So yes, there will be a lot of ARM ASM in PocketSX. It's all a matter of the number of people that request it and how easy it is to convert it to MIPS ... don't count on it, but it COULD happen. And the more devices we have to keep up and support the slower the emulator becomes as a whole because Rob and jadam have to try to write portable code instead of optimized code.

I actually think Schtruck is planning to support the MIPS devices, though.

They don't work on the PC? Tell me, how do I play it all the time then? Hell, they were still more than playable on my P233.

An ISO is an "image" of a CD. It IS a CD, just collected as a single file for easy use on your computer. Just about every burning program out there will know what to do with an ISO, which is good, because you obviously don't.

And if PSX emulators don't work on the computer then why is there a retail Playstation emulator, along with over 7 free PSX emulators online. And how is it that many users have been able to play Ridge Racer and Final Fantasy, two very popular Playstation games, on their PocketPC thanks to Rob & jadam.

Also, ISO's are not synonyms for warez. ISO's are copies of the Playstation game disks that we have made on our desktop computers and transfered to play on our PocketPC.
