I would like to thank Anthony for helping debug DEXplor over the last few days. He has downloaded and tested dozens
of alpha versions of DEXplor to isolate this problem.
The problem was found and has been corrected. The fix will be included in version 1.2, which I hope to release this week.
The problem manifests with DEXplor and the entire device freezing up at startup. The following three conditions must be met for the bug to occur:
- You must be using a Pocket PC 2002 device.
- The device must be attached to a network of some kind (this may include USB).
- There must be 1 or more incorrect file associations on your Pocket PC. By incorrect I mean that it refers to an icon file that does not exist, or the icon file does not contain an Icon with the specified icon index.
That would cause DEXplor to ask the OS to load an icon for a file on a non-existant device on the network, which would cause to OS to freeze up. I would suspect that eventually it would wake up again after it timed out trying to find the non-existant network device. The delay could be a few minutes per bad File Association.
A temporary fix would be to use the File Association Editor in the registered version of DEXplor to find and correct the association containing the invalid Icon entry.
