Plugin behaviour

Postby Guest » Mar 14, 2002 @ 10:31pm

The effect is the following: After I select e.g. "Task Manager" from the File-menu, it builds the tasklist with ClearType on and when the list is complete, it rebuilds the list without ClearType (which is my setting).

Another thing: The (X) in the upper right corner of the screen doesn't close DEXplor (like it should in PPC2002) but only hides it. Could you add this feature?

Regards,
Markus

For 3 I'm guessing he means the program starts up with ClearType on and then switchs back to ClearType off after a momentary pause.

A few more bugs found in 1.20

Postby Jules » Mar 20, 2002 @ 6:49am

1) Dexplor doesn't display names with an ampersand (&) character correctly. A file name like TexasA&M.jpg will show up as TexasAM.jpg

2) Filenames with dashes (-) show up incorrectly when Cleartype is set on. With Cleartype on, the dashes are turned into spaces (Hello-world.exe becomes Hello world.exe). Perhaps the Cleartype antialiasing turns those thin dashes into empty space, I dunno.

3) Category column widths aren't saved. If you resize the name column width wider to accomodate longer names and restart the program or change some other option like cleartype on/off, the column widths get reset to their defaults.

Thanks!

#1 is easily fixed - I didn't know that problem existed. That will be corrected with the next release.

I'll take a look at the hyphen issue. As you say, it may be an artifact of the ClearType rendering.

#3 has already been fixed. 1.30 introduces a new setting that allows you to take a "snapshot" that saves the current column widths. The next time you start DEXplor they are restored to that saved state. There's reason I went that route, instead of just saving the current column widths everytime you exit DEXplor. Sometimes when browsing you need to temporarilly size a column to see more info for a particular item. You would have to remember to manually size the column back before exiting so it wouldn't become the default. So with the new method you get to tweak it exactly the way you want it, then save that position for good.

Hpyhens (-) appear correctly on my device when ClearType is on. Are you using an English Pocket PC?

I discovered another bug (or kind of) today.

When I tried to move a folder from the main memory to the CF card in my E-125, DEXPlor moved the files over (unfortunately without any progress bar, could that be implented? I like to know if a tool works or not), except a large one (about 1.5MB).

I tried it several times, but nothing happened, then I discovered that there was not enough space left on the CF card.

Same thing happens with Cut&Paste / Copy&Paste from the context menu.

To sum it up: some information about running file operations would be great, e.g. a status bar and some warning dialogs.

I am using the same system font, Tahoma, but at one point size smaller than the default (the same size that the menus at the bottom use). I can send you a snapshot if necessary, to show what it looks like.

Pics of the Properties screen under Dexplor

Postby Jules » Mar 27, 2002 @ 4:23am

Edited to add the direct links to the pics (I don't know why they're not being loaded onto the BB):

---------------------------------

Dan:

Here are a few pics to get an idea of what the Properties screen looks like under Dexplor on my machine with the system font set at a somewhat smaller size:

Notice that the smaller font results in all the prompts being spaced incorrectly since it seems to be hard coded to the larger default system font.

Anyway, I notice many programs seem to have this same problem and I've learned to live with it since changing my font, but since I figure you seem to be so responsive maybe you would be able to something about it in the case of Dexplor.

Hey, I just noticed after looking at the screenshots that 'Modified' is misspelled as 'Modifed'. Guess that should be easily fixed for the next revision.

Hope this helps.
