Online games are big business with Asia poised to be a major force to be reckoned with. According to market research firm DFC International, online games revenues were US$1.9 billion last year, with over half of the revenues coming from Asia. The market is expected to grow to US$5.2 billion in 2006 before exploding to US$9.8 billion in 2009, with Asia retaining the largest market lead.
Singapore continues to break the mold and lead the way providing a viable outlet for Independent Game Developers to infiltrate the Asian markets through a Hub of Regional Hosting Center’s and comprehensive support models to effectively distribute their games to over 30 countries around the World.

The Games Bazaar is another model supported by the IDA (INFOCOMM Development Authority of Singapore – www.ida.gov.sg ), providing a scalable and pay-as-you-use hosting model. With prices starting from as low as US$200 per server per month, after subsidies, it is definitely extremely attractive.
Singapore's push to be a regional hub for computer games, IDA unveiled the Games Exchange Alliance (GXA). GXA is an alliance of local companies that are involved in the computer games business. Each GXA member provides their individual strengths to the table, which includes games distribution, hosting, localization and marketing. Game companies, including Independent Game Shops, who are looking to distribute or commercialize their games in Asia, can make use of the supportive and collective capabilities of the GXA to help them bridge their commercialization last mile faster and more effectively.
The GXA currently has 12 members. Teckwah Online, Mikoishi, 10tacle Studios and Pacific Internet are involved in games services and publishing. Webvisions, Equinix and 1-Net are hosting and infrastructure providers. InerWorx Technologies, IV Lab and Camelot Hobbies have expertise in technology and localization of content. There is also Systems@ Work which offers secured payment services and Hardware Zone which deals with media and marketing.
