3D LCD subpixel demo

3D LCD subpixel demo

Postby Phantom » Jul 26, 2002 @ 11:17pm

Hey all,

I have uploaded a little tech demo of something I have been working on tonight: 3D combined with 'cleartype'. Basically I use LCD subpixels to smooth the jaggies of flatshaded polygons.

The technology can be read about everywhere on the internet, but a quick explanation won't hurt: The pixels on the iPaq and other devices consist of red, green and blue 'subpixels'. All on is white, all off is black. Just red on means red.

A white block is thus: red, green, blue, red, green, blue, all on. But, we can make this block 1/3rd pixel wider by turning one extra 'subpixel' on.

Take a look at the demo, you'll see it works quite well. :) The demo draws a cube, 100% subpixel accurate, using a very fast scanline renderer. Texturing will be added later. :)

Enjoy. :)

Sorry about that. Mostly my fault.

Try going to and read the .doc file that is located there. In that document, you'll see an URL to a PocketPC version of STL. Just drop it in some directory on your computer, add it to the include-path of your compiler, and there's your <string>

Cheers,

Jape

I don't believe this.

We just found out that the iPaq has it's LCD subcomponents ordered on top of each other, while the XDA has them next to eachother. Wich means that the cube demo doesn't look good at all on the iPaq. And no-one noticed. Incredible. :)

Anyway, I'll make sure next time the demo supports the iPaq too. ;) With the new landscape code from Reinier that should be a piece of cake.
