Library v0.99 FINAL

Postby Phantom » Jul 29, 2002 @ 12:48pm

Gentlemen,

I hereby declare version 0.99b of the Overloaded Game Foundation 'final'. Next version will be the 1.00 beta, wich is going to be released somewhere in September.

All 0.98 users are encouraged to download the new 0.99 version from the download page at .

The new version offers, amongst other things and fixes:

- JPeg file support (& automatic file type detection)
- Landscape support
- Battery monitor ('ingame', no more ugly popups)
- Surface clipping
- Window scaling in 'emulated' mode

The 0.99 Overloaded Game Foundation is now a highly stable and sophisticated tool for creating games for PocketPC's.

The 0.99 version is not just a code update, but also a 'program update': We have changed the rules to allow for more flexibility when it comes to a financial reward. :) Bascially, we have three categories:

Basic content-less game (pacman, meltdown,...) - up to $500
Basic content-driven game (Pang!, Magnets,...) - up to $1000
Complex content-driven game (The Nutcracker,...) - up to $2500

Extra points for 'connected' features:
* User level submission
* Convincing and challenging hiscore system
* Original 'connected' ideas are a HUGE plus!

Extra points for polished products:
* Sound effects, music, professional gfx

Extra points for exclusivity:
* Unpublished product
* Unported product (when porting from GB / PC / PS2)

Extra points for originality:
* Brilliant game ideas
* Brilliant PocketPC / Smartphone port of existing game idea
* Brilliant use of connected features

As you can see, there's a lot of emphasis on 'connected' features.

The 1.00 version will also support Smartphones.
Other plans for the 1.00 version:

- 3D graphics
- Multiplayer functionality
- Stable interface

Keep on coding,

- Jacco

To compile the 0.99 libraries for your PocketPC, you need to install STL. Jaap wrote a bit about that:

The document also contains a download link for a good version of STL for the PocketPC.
