Ask for help - any documentation available?

Ask for help - any documentation available?

Postby A_C » Sep 7, 2007 @ 4:12am

Hi,

I think I'm a bit late to discover this library. I've tried to get the GledPlay SVN version from here, but could not find any documentation. Besides, he official site http://www.gledplay.com/ seems already down. So, could anyone post the documentation about how to use GledPlay? and any sample programs would also appreciate.

Thanks for your help!

I don't know if anyone actually got this library to work. It was great in concept but ended up just not working (crashing after time).

It would be great if you can make it work and use it.

The documentation is within the svn as xml files.

Good luck man. This library had so much potential.

Thanks summer. I've renamed those .xml to .html than it works.

However, your comment is quite discouraging. And I've tried the "TestApplication", it even cannot exit (a quick snap of the code it should quit by double clicking the screen, but it does not)... :(

As I'm looking for a graphics library for WM. Hopefully it has some sprites management & alpha blending features. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Currently when it comes to graphic libraries or other gaming libraries I have looked at most of them.

Edge is probably the best bet. Great support, beautiful library that's updated all the time. It is a bit expensive but they've got different versions at different prices. Good value.

PPL is also great to use. It may seem a little weird in the beginning but once you get used to it it's quite a gem. It's a lot more powerful than what one thinks. A bonus is that you don't need any other programs such as Visual Studio and so forth.

Gapidraw is very user friendly but they don't update much and don't expect your questions to be answered on the forums. I am not sure if they updated recently but last time I checked they haven't updated in ages.

PocketFrog looks like it's dead. It also looks like it will be revived again. It's just a gut feeling. I don't know.

I am currently using Game Editor. Which is a game maker that can export to quite a lot of platforms. It speeds up game development quite a lot. Scripting is done in c and it may not be nearly as fast as all the other things I mentioned but it works well. It's updated every now and then and the updates are huge. I think that in one of the next few updates it will include multi-player (across platforms). No other programs are needed. It has a healthy community in the forums and excellent support. It may not be for everyone though.

It depends on what you need. In the past I hated things like Game Editor and PPL but now I love them. For pure programming I'd go with Edge.

Eh, keep me updated what you choose eventually. Such things interest me. I hope you find something that will fit your needs.

GledPlay is back!

I think summer_goth is right about libs.

GledPlay is not on the same level as Edge or GapiDraw. However, it is 100% open source, with a very permissive license (MIT). With your help, we can make it better.
