Five months later and things are still shafted. So it seems that it was definitely shin splints. And periostitis. And compartment syndrome. And maybe something else. When I break something I really break it.

So today I had an EMG and NCV to see if it was nerve damage. My leg, which was already painful, has now been subjected to about 50 electric shocks and has ~10 holes in it where I was stabbed with a needle. It turns out that (thankfully?) my nerves are fine, so it's probably "just" compartment syndrome (and shin splints and periostitis).

In the next thrilling installment they're going to stab me in the leg with needles and make me run until I get the excruciating pain and have to stop. Now there's something to look forward to.

Dunno, it seemed to me that the doctor was having the most fun while he was stabbing me in the leg with needles. The EMG machine seemed to get in the way of that a bit.

The PET scan(s) and MRI I had sucked. The scintography had the best results so far easily. The representation of the muscles in my leg from the MRI was pretty cool.. but as it was completely inconclusive compared to the scintography, that one has to win.

And a CAT scan is always amusing.. brr brrr clatter clatter clatter whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrr brrrr clatter clatter, etc.

Amputate.

More progress. I spoke to the consultant today about the operation. I have to go talk to an anaesthesiologist and have a scan of my thorax and blood-work done in case things go pear-shaped. If all that is fine then in theory there'll an operating room with my name on it (and me in it) on Thursday.

The operation's going to be done using an endoscope so I should only be in hospital a couple of days to monitor the haematoma and then I'll have to stay at home for another week or two while the stitches are in.

They used to do the operation by cutting down the entire calf and opening it out, so I'm quite glad that it'll just be a small scar or two.

I'll also have the amusement of writing a will, just in case things go really pear-shaped.

Hmm. Seems a far cry from the NHS, where the last time I had an operation I scrawled my signature on the consent form as they were injecting the anaesthetic.

Come to think of it, I need to fire off an email chasing up the solicitor who's sueing the bastard who ran me over.
