I'm still waiting for everyone to realize that the federal governments only ability in natural disasters is to send in FEMA for command and control purposes. The governor controls the National Gaurd, and dropped the ball. The local EMA didn't do anything, including establishing a local disaster command center. The mayor(s) did nothing by way of evacuation orders and/or support for said evacuations. The local police didn't establish any sort of security.

Maybe its just me, but I'm missing what GWB actually did wrong in this instance, and even if there is something, that it might be even close to comparable to the absolute joke that the state and local gov't calls response.

Of course, I consider that the media has stopped bashing Bush over his response an indication that they have finally figured all of this out.

The president does have some accountability here. He essentially gutted FEMA and put it under the control of Homeland Security, and we've seen how well that worked out. No one here escapes blame.

Just for shits and giggles, I don't think there is anything stopping the President from calling up the National Guard to help in a situation like this. Sure it is highly unusual since the Governor usually does that.

Organic Superlube? Oh, it's great stuff, great stuff. You really have to keep an eye on it, though--it'll try and slide away from you the first chance it gets.

Any sort of evidence of the ineptitude of the (former) head of FEMA would be great, oppinion on the matter without basis is far from useful.

As to Canada, I don't know the politics well enough to judge. I do know that any use of martial law in the U.S. is a very touchy subject, something to be done only in the most extreme circumstances.
