Slow on 3970

Slow on 3970

Postby Jonas » Jul 25, 2002 @ 1:56pm

The Shareware version of DEXplor is very slow on my iPAQ 3970. It loads and change folders a lot slower than the built in File Explorer. I like the program except that.

slowness

Postby Anon » Jul 26, 2002 @ 1:53pm

Uhm, that's just the program, not a problem with your device. It's slow on my hp 565, slow on ipaqs, it's the price you pay for the generally accepted best file explorer. It's one of the lower costing apps, but running on batteries, slowness shouldn't be tolerated. :\

Nope, it is not the prog itself, it is the combination with xscale, or missing optimization or sth else.

I have the new Loox and my old iPaq 3850.
On iPaq Dex-Plor i fast, the same action on Loox is sloooooowwww.

Remembers me on some old Progs which got slower and slower with each processor update because of some intern counter or sth. like that, which could't handle fast proc itself...

Hmm, I don't know how I missed this thread. The BBS software is still a bit buggy about flagging threads and forums with Image messages.

I have a round of optimizations to perform on DEXplor when time allows. A big reason for DEXplor's relatively slow performance in some areas is simply because it does more, and does it in a very user configurable way, as compared to the default File Explorer, etc. Also I do not have access to XScale hardware, so I have not been able to perform optimizations specifically for that processor type. Hopefully that will change in the near future.

Dan: What if you simply change when those stats are loaded? I for one would love if the folders would pop up instantly, then all the stats on the side. No use to know the size of a folder if you know where your going.

Currently the calculations that determine the folder sizes are done in a low-priority background thread. So when you start DEXplor you can immediately begin opening folders, etc, even though the Folder Sizes haven't yet updated.

Odd, isn't that what's causing the slow boot time? Though it's been a bit since I've used DEXPlor, once my PM CD arrives I'm surely going to take another look at it, though I do remember specifcally this.

Looking forward to the new versions though, now that your working on speed.
