Feature request: FTP support

Feature request: FTP support

Postby Jorg1 » Jul 15, 2002 @ 9:46pm

Hi Dan,

Do you by any chance consider adding FTP support to Dex-plor? It would be nice to have a small FTP server running on my desktop PC, which is accessible on my Pocket PC using an Internet connection.

If not: is there any (free?) FTP client you recommend for Pocket PC?

Thanks.

An FTP plugin is one of the highest-priority plugins for DEXplor, and will likely be one of the next plugins produced.

I personally have never used an FTP client on a Pocket PC, but perhaps someone else can recommend some FTP software.

Scotty FTP, I think there's a shareware version.

Thanks Dan, FTP support would be great.

I was thinking of an easy way to access the files on my desktop PC while on the move with my Pocket PC (which has an integrated GPRS modem). I figured that running a small FTP server on my PC would give me access to all the files, using an FTP client on the Pocket PC.

Of course, it would be great if I could use Dex-plor as the FTP client.

I am inpatiently waiting the new plugins! Keep them coming, and thanks for your support!

CedeFTP is the best, IMHO ;)

I personally use ftpView (http://www.pocketpcsoft.net/zips/ftpview.zip), mostly, and occasionally CE FileCommander (http://www.abisoft.spb.ru/download/index.html). They're both OK, but neither seems to work with every FTP site. Don't know enough about FTP to know why not. The big advantage is that both are freeware, unlike CedeFTP!

Yeah, FTP is awesome. At my college, we can access our class folders on either a shared network folder or ftp, so I can drop assignments in the drop-box thingy with my Pocket PC. I also have an FTP server running on my dorm PC and I can access my files through my Pocket PC.

I think that FTP is definitely a cool feature. Maybe a little while later you could add an FTP server plug-in for DEX-plor! I am running one right now on my e115 with my WiFi card. It works great, but is shareware. I think that DEX-plor is worth its $14 or so because it does or will have pretty much every utility that I can imagine for my Pocket PC. If only I had a credit card...

Yeah, the program that I was using for an ftp client on my Pocket PC stopped working because it's time limit expired, but I downloaded FTPView. It works, but not with all sites, as was stated. I like it for what it can do. I'll try that other freeware app that you mentioned...
