Welcome to PocketMatrix Version 3.0

Postby Chris Edwards » Jun 9, 2004 @ 9:19am

Welcome to the new PocketMatrix.com design! It's a bit less blue, but you're going to have to live with it. After all, this is PM3, not PM2!

We've introduced some new advertising with the new design (notice the featured downloads on the left). There will no longer be 468x60 banners in the top right hand corner. We've done our best to offer great advertising spots for developers, while keeping the look clean and intuitive to users.

There isn't too much new functionality to the new site as of yet. We're still waiting for phpBB 2.2 to be released before we do an overhaul of the forums.

Having said all of that, we hope you like the new design. Your feedback, whether positive or negative is definately welcome.

Heh, I thought I typed in the wrong URL when I first visited.

It all starts here... bleh :P

Anyway those banners and other content could be removed from the thread summary below the submit button?

Hokay:
  1. I find it harder to read than with the old colours.
  2. And more cluttered with the stuff at the left side (which I never use/need anyway).
  3. And the topic review includes all the side stuff
  4. And you probably don't want "register" in the bar at the top for people who're logged in...

I'll stop grumping now. :P

Light on dark IS harder to read, but I think it's more getting used to the design, foudn it getting easier myself. The site uses a lot of CSS now, so hopefully colour tweaks like yours can be implemented faster.

If only IE supported PNG transparency, we'd be set.

While I'm whining, it would be useful if you'd change the hard-coded font sizes in the CSS to percentages. That way the "text size" options in browsers like IE (and ctrl-scrollwheel) should work.

Also, the automatic redirect after a post has been removed?

Wow... really... different- almost dizzying.

I honestly think you were better before- now it feels like it was made with a script like PostNuke or PHPnuke.

And "it all starts here" isn't just pretty stupid, it's also inapplicable. What exactly starts here but philosophical arguments over god and light-speed travel?

Oh, and the left bar gets annoying. I'd rather have it on the right side... and the bar below the pocket matrix logo doesn't exactly go with the new color scheme.. (Home, Forums, etc.)

Doesn't Mozilla Firefox?

The "NEW" text for topics is almost unnoticeable now.

All in all, I like the new design. The colors are a nice change. One major gripe - the bar on the left side is way, way too big. I'd rather have it along the top. Since I have my IE windows usually at half width, now my topics are spread out over three lines like this:

Anything
Discussion
for
registered
only.

And that's with a 1024x768 res mind you!

Since I also like to visit PM on my TH55, which has a smaller resolution yet again, it'd mean scrolling back and forth the entire time.

<edit> I take it you're still tinkering with the forum? All the img tags are off..

It doesn't matter if Firefox supports it if 75% of the users use IE.

refractor: font size with scroll wheel works here.

I like the design overall. The light blue is a nice change. I find it easier to read the text, but thats just me. I do have a few things that are bugging me though.

Its mainly the links and ads on the left side. It would look better on the right hand side, especially on PPC's. I would hate to scroll over to type something every time a new page loads.

Sponge: Mmh, doesn't work in IE on this machine - 6.0.2800.1106 (XP SP1) - well actually a few bits of text scale, but nothing useful.

Overall I love the new design. But I can't stand that bar being down the left everywhere on the board, it gets in the way sometimes.

First of all, congrats to Matt and Chris for creating such a great site! :)

I got into a little problem though. I tried uploading a new avatar but it gave me all sorts of php script errors (particularly on avatar.php?). Is avatar uploading possible now btw?

Keep up the nice work!
