You could use a file like BackendForums.php and have an RSS link on the homepage, that ought to do the trick.

There's a unique RSS feed for each forum now, as well as a generic one.

The link for the forum unique one can be found by browsing to the forum you want to view the feed for, and clicking the "Subscribe to the (forum name) RSS Feed".

The generic RSS feed link is at the bottom of every page on the site.

What is an RSS feed? I see that on many blogs. Looks like XML. What do you do with it?

http://www.sharpreader.net/

That's the PC client I use. Basically allows you to read a site's feed outside of the browser, for example to combine CNet News.com, Slashdot, and the such into one site/program.
holy internets batman.

I'd be interested to hear how you guys find the RSS feeds change your browsing habbits. Do you post more/less when using them?

I think I'm going to add a reply link to the bottom to make it easier for replying.

I'm new to this RSS thing too, although it is already looking useful.

I'm using SharpReader, and when viewing the Developer Forum I see what looks like recursion. Each post has 8 child items, which are copies of itself. Each of those 8 items contain 7 copies each, which each contain 6 copies, etc.

Also this reader has no status indicater to let you know what it is doing, and seems a little buggy in general. So hopefully this is just a poor reader as opposed to PM generating flawed RSS data.
