Support for Symbian 9 Announced for Edge SDK 2.60

Postby edge » May 12, 2006 @ 3:01pm

Dear developers,

We are pleased to announce the addition of Symbian 9.1 support in the upcoming release of our multi-platform mobile game engine, Edge SDK version 2.60.

The support of Symbian 9.1 brings Edge to the latest generation of handsets, like the Nokia N91, Nokia E61, Nokia 3250 and the Sony Ericsson P990 phones. The new version of the Symbian operating system is the core of the new S60 (formerly Series 60) 3rd Edition and UIQ 3.0 software platforms and is binary incompatible with previous Symbian versions.

"The 2.60 milestone is a really important goal to us," says Elements Interactive CEO Danny Hoffman, "the embracing of new technologies like the Symbian 9.1 platform shows our commitment with the developer community."

The Edge 2.60 release introduces major improvements in the Edge Packer and Edge IDE development tools for Windows desktop. The new Edge Packer version features commandline support, various enhancements of the file format and lots of improvements in the GUI. The new version of the Edge IDE tool supports Symbian and contains improved error handling.

Other improvements of the new Edge SDK include the addition of several new time related functions, functions to use relative file paths and emulate and manipulate the current working directory, fixes for a few 3D lightning and texture mapping issues and various other enhancements and bugfixes.

The release of the Edge SDK 2.60 is planned for late May, early June 2006. If you have questions or remarks about this forthcoming release, please contact us. We will be happy to answer all your questions.

An evaluation version of Edge for non-commercial use can be downloaded for free at http://www.edgelib.com.

Kind regards,

The team at Elements Interactive

While you're dealing with relative path issues would it be possible to throw in a path parameter for the Screen Capture command to direct the bitmap to a specified location.

Right now it seems hard coded to the current path.

We'd like the captures to go to My Documents, or My Documents/My Pictures.
