Error: Couldn't fall back to software refresh!

I get this error:
Error: Couldn't fall back to software refresh!
when I start the program and click the ok button after the startup screen that says the version, web address, Dan East, etc. Right now I have 9.14 MB memory free for Storage and 15.52 free for Programs. I have and iPAQ 3765. Any Help would be appreciated.

Is that the only error message you see, or do any precede it?

That is the only message I see. I also noticed that if there are other windows open it shows the error message behind them.

I get the same exact error. I have a ipaq 3835. I installed q2 on the 128 storage card & the pak0 file also. Any info would be great. Thanks.

I would recommend that you try and free up at least 20MB of program memory, and perform a soft reset just before starting Pocket Quake II.

In this order:

Soft reset
Adjust Memory >20
Start PQII

I launch the prgm
I get the splash screen, and after that, 'Couldn't fall back to software refresh'.

And it crashes the application where I launch PocketQuake (pocket pc file explorer or 'pocketexplorer' for example)

Should have explained more.... I have over 25MB free for program memory. I tried with the original pak0 file on a 64MB storage card. I then did what the ruskie in the other post suggested and culled the pak0 file down to 17MB and loaded into RAM and tried again with the same result. The error message is immediate after splash screen.

Same "Can't fall back to software refresh" error right after the splash screen.

I have:
iPaq 3765
22 meg program memory free
pak file on a 512Meg CF card in a Silver Slider II expansion.
DEXplor running

(registered even

)
PocketQuake2 Installed in main memory.

I tried moving the PQII files to the CF card but got the exact same results.

I'm using a Toshiba e740, Hard reset, no other programs installed, everything in main RAM, and I've also tried putting the exec on my SD card, same response.

got the same problem with the newest (0.11) quake2
file and the yakumo PDA delta
fucked up!
but in my case the application (file explorer)
doesn´t crash...
isee the splash screen
and than nothing but the error message behind the file explorer!

hello i am chen_stanny. and i was the same person that asked questions in the "installing pocekt quake?" forum.
i also have this error. wierd...
saved pak0 file on 128 mb simpletech sd, have 23mb free on toshiba e740
please help all these people ( and me) that are having this problem!!! thanks

i'd bet you forgoten to compile ref_soft.
I too se the same message when i forget to compile ref_soft in the emulator

I get the same error. "Can't fall back to software refresh" I have an iPaq 3835 with Q2 installed on a 256 MB CF card with a Silver Slider. :lol:

I have about 25 MB of free program memory as well. I guess nobody is paying attention to this being it has be 5 months since last post. :evil:
