Okay, okay, you're probably all just laughing now...

But it has finally happened. My @migo appears to be totally toast. It won't POST (no happy "ding-dong" sound). It's most definitely out of warranty

If anyone knows how to fix this, please submit...

But otherwise, I guess I will be shopping. Like a lot of people, I am on a budget, but I can afford to wait. What's this about WinCE4 I hear? Soon? Vaporware?

Do I hold out for an Xscale? 3D accel?

I really miss my PPC.

Sorry about that man. I just got a Toshiba e740 about two weeks ago. I love it. The xscale isnt really all that faster than the ARM 206 MHz but the new BIOS should be coming out which includes the 3D optimizations and better Xscale support.

Just thought I'd offer this.

Chris Edwards has a 740 and a mutual friend has a 710 (I believe). I have to say they are both really nice machines.

If I fork out for a hot Toshiba now, will I be missing any of the new "great enhancements" in the next 4-6 months?

Maybe I should just wait for Chris to get back from Pocket PC Summit...

Well, it's called Windows CE.net 4.1, and it's already available, but I'm not sure how close the Pocket PC team is to releasing their version of it.

Pocket PC = Windows CE... but
Windows CE != Pocket PC

The Windows CE OS is the basis for a whole bunch of other devices, such as webpads, handheld laptops, and Pocket PCs. There's mixed opinion out there on whether the next Pocket PC OS will make use of the XScale processor, so who knows... Currently there is very little difference between a StrongARM and XScale in terms of speed. Sorta like the P3 and the P4 when the P4 initially launched.

3D accel? Probably won't see that for a while.

You can always hold my e740 whenever you want to... except when it's in my pocket.
