Yea, the bus is the bottleneck, not the processor. You could have a 2GHz XScale and not notice too much of a difference.
holy internets batman.

Except ... when I overclock my H3955 to 472 MHz then PocketQuake runs about 20% faster than it does at 400MHz and PocketSNES becomes much smoother. So there goes that theory.

And a faster front side bus does not necesitate an increased speed of other peripherals. There are things called multipliers. They're set at different things depending on CPU and front side bus clock speed in order to maintain a constant level of stability. Increasing the speed to the LCD would very well burn it out since LCDs require a certain hertz. By increasing the FSB without decreasing the multiplier the LCD's refresh rate would become out of sync and thus a 24hz refresh rate would become more like a 36hz refresh rate, much much too high for the kind of LCD in the PocketPC. Also, the speed of the memory is dependant on the memory itself, not the front side bus. In fact, the only thing that changes with a front side bus change is ... the front side bus, which is simply the pipeline that connects a few things on the motherboard. It doesn't mean the components it connects run faster, it's designed so that they won't run faster because they're required to run at a normal speed.
