Axim Basic have PXA255?

Postby fzammetti » Aug 29, 2003 @ 5:35pm

I just ordered a new PPC (FINALLY!), but I got the cheaper Axim because I happen to have a Dell account which just happened to have enough for that one left. It's just a stop-gap until after Christmas when I can get a top-of-the-line model again anyway.

Ok, I'm off-topic already... my question, which I didn't think of until after I ordered, is: does the Axim Basic have the PXA255? I know it's PPC2K3 and X-Scale of course, but I'm not sure of the specific processor version.

Thanks!

Good info guys, thanks!

Since I'm not really a heavy gamer (ICBM and Monopoly generally do it for me) I think I'm going to be very happy with this thing. Heck, I may wind up not even needing to buy a better one in a few months!

Frank,

Just a couple of things.
1. The thumb switch can be depressed as a button. I've never used it for anything myself, but it does do that, at least on mine.
2. I've found with mine that the performance is actually a little better if you let it choose its own speed. I know it sounds weird, but for some reason it works that way. Perhaps it uses bursts to accomplish specific tasks faster, rather than expending the effort to keep the processor running fast... *shrugs*

Later,
-John

Thanks for the heads-up on the thumb switch. I'll go play with that a bit. I find that convenient when doing certain things with one hand (umm, let's stay out of the gutter here folks :) )

The speed thing is odd... I myself did notice things working more smoothly when I left the speed at the "normal" setting. Weird. Speed is good in any case, so who's to complain, right?!?
