if this girl is going to college then a pocket pc with wifi might be a good way to go. i know alot of colleges have wifi networks all over campus now, like the University of Buffalo (where i am now) has TONS of access points.
plus if you give her a keyboard with it she can use Word and type her notes during lecture on it, instead of writing or lugging a laptop.
