How does the screen compare to the screen for a Casio EM-500 ? Better / Worse? Is it the same type of screen?

I don't have an EM-500. I bet Matt does. Heh. But compared to my E-125 (I don't know if the EM-500 is identical in screen but I'm sure it should be)...the @migo's screen is not necessarily superior. The colors are equal in that they are both 16-bit. But the sharpness or clarity..and brightness of my E-125 is incomparable. It's just excellent! The @migo isn't quite there. Seems a little duller. I think it's because it uses a sidelight...which I am use to rather quickly...and also b/c it uses that reflective screen for use in daylight. IMHO...if the screen brightness and contrast could be increased a little bit more, then it would equal the E-125. But it's still quite good. If you turn the sidelight brightness all the way down indoors...thats about how it looks to me when outdoors. Well..just a tad better. Whew. I love long posts.

I have both the EM500 and the ipaq. The ipaq has a very similar screen to the @migo. I would have to say that I like my ipaq screen better. The casio one scratches too easily, and too much. Casio should implement the ipaq type screen. It would save on battery life (not backlight) and it would be easier to see outside.

I really meant to say that the dust problem was not present in the @migo but it slipped my mind. I have no problems at all with it, not even what JJB mentioned.

:)
I think I never actually said I don't have dust problems UNDER the screen. If that wasn't clear, I reiterate.

Matt, great review. Video was good too but the case looks cheesy. I bought an HP Jornada 548 w/ keyboard for 399 and no tax (military) but after reading everything it seems I have the weak link. It's nice to learn on but I'm addicted to power and feel the upgrade bug. I've been to a lot of PPC sites and this is definitely the best. Keep it up!

Great review! I've been wandering why I havn't seen one yet (with the delays etc). It tackeled the issues most of us would be wanting to know about. (eg. button issue)

I've got an IPaq, and although I love it, it still has a few probs that really annoy me - one being the volume control steps. You go from silence to hissy quality medium volume in the first step.

Whats the Audio quality like on the @migo? Does the volume control move in huge steps, and does it sound warm? (as opposed to harsh and thin like the IPaq)

Cheers, CJ

Well it would be nice if the volume had some smaller steps. I should also note that it can get quite loud. The quality is nice until you get to the highest volume settings, at that point it gets scratchy.

It's definitely larger and heavier...but it can really stand a beating. :) I proved that already.
