Help, I am having program problems with my jornada

Postby Dan » Jan 8, 2002 @ 8:39pm

Can anyone assist me,
My jornada 520 pocket pc has been getting a message that says" Do you want to continue running application or pocket pc program. then the two buttons are continue and run demo. When i click run demo it brings up internet explorer and when i click continue it procees with what i was doin and then comes back in 3-4 min later. It lags everything bad. The only programs i instaled were aim, 3 games i downloaded online which i did erase but did not help it. It also reads this message when power is off so it turns it on the i never know bout it and it drains the batterie. SO if anyone know what to do please help me. Thanks, dan

You mean hard or soft reset?

Well Dan, first try a soft reset. If it doesn't work, THEN try a hard reset (you'll loose everything you have installed in your PPC!).

Sounds to me like you haven't been closing applications. The dialog you describe could be the one that shows up when you start running out of memory due to IE caching or something. Get something like WISBar or PocketNav that will let you close things down when you're not using them.

Postby Dan » Jan 10, 2002 @ 4:54pm

I have soft reseted it many times, It is realy starting to mess things up. I think i need to hard reset it, but can someone tell me how. Also when it says cannot clean up execute cleanup.exe what does that mean. Does it have anytihng to do with it, becaue it does make the whole pocket pc freeze and will not let me shut it down.
I have no idea what the heck you're talking about. I think a hard reset is probably a good idea, and instead of using AIM, I'd advise trying Jabber. AOL sucks.

A post I randomly found on Brighthand says that you reset by holding both power and reset for more than 5 secons.

Just take out both the main and backup batteries. That should hard reset it.

No, no, no. Never take the batteries out of a Jornada 54x or 52x series Pocket PC. They cannot be taken out without special equipment. That means, once they go permantly dead you have to send the unit back to HP. To soft reset, push the small red button on the back of the unit and to hard reset, hold down the power button and the red reset button for about 4-6 seconds, then turn the unit back on and the LED light on the top of the unit will flash green 5 times and the Jornada will reboot. To Dan and other users, I suggest you read your manual if you are new to pocket PC's. You will learn alot and not make mistakes that could be damaging to your Pocket PC. If your Pocket PC did not come with a manual, check on the CD that came with your Pocket PC, or go online.Last modification: TechMage - 01/10/02 at 17:18:09

Whoa, I was getting pretty worried there until TechMage came and stopped the useless waste of a PocketPC. Backup all the stuff you want to keep and hard reset, it is the method of holding the power button down and then hit reset, not sure how long to hold for but it sounds like 4-5 seconds from the people in the know.

Good luck.
