Until Warcraft III: TFT comes to the pocketPC (never), Tactics Ogre on SuperFamicom is all I need on my PPC :)

RTS > Turn Based anyway...

I'm surprised menu-driven RPGs like the non-tactics Final Fantasies are still around. Strat RPGs seem like natural evolution from them because they add a another variable to the battle system -- a very complex variable with a lot of fun/challenging implications.

So you can not only have the story of the classical RPGs, but some challenge too. The original FF:Tactics was a masterpiece in that respect. One of the best storylines ever, and it had a battle system with some depth. FFTA, on the other hand, was a crime. Zero challenge, and a zero of a story.

To paraphrase: there is huge potential in the strat-RPG genre (which for some reason doesn't seem to be as big in the US as it does in other countries).

and how the ff comunity called for a proper sequel to fft, In many ways it would have been better if they hadn't bothered. The system is too complex for kids and the characters are too childish to be engrosing for anyone over 12 years old.

Is it just me, or is FFTA's story a rip-off of The Neverending Story?

the whole entering the book stuff is a real cliche.

Almost as bad as "oh it was a dream- but how come i still have...."

or even "i was being controlled by an evil force and didn't mean to kill your friends"
