Depends on the compound. Most of them (if not all) can damage your screen. Try first with toothpaste.

I love modding my case, I'm going to miss doing so when I sell out for the laptop field.
I just got the new Black Ice EXTREME radiator for my water system and it kicks ass, but it's really hard to get all of the air out. Of course I tried to get all of the air out without a reservoir so that would be why. I recommend it for any watercooling system. I used to use DangerDan's Cooling Cube, this new Black Ice is so TINY compared to the cooling cube and it cools even better! Geforce 3, 266MHz DDR Motherboard chipset, and 1.4GHz AMD Athlon (not XP) all cooled with a CPU temp of 48*C, used to be 56*C with fan cooling, and it had it underclocked to 1.3GHz. Plus it's quieter, no annoying whirling fans, just one deep lowpitched one cooling the single radiator.

If anyone's interested, this is a pic of of a Lian Li case mod that my brother's just started.

He hasn't done a lot yet, but just received a whole load of stuff (cooling, etc), so should be kinda impressive soon. Personally, i like the castor wheels most, makes it SOO easy to move about!

Pic of pop-rivets below. They may not look it in the pic, but they are pretty subtle especially with this case.
