Overclocking Asus A716

Postby Registered » Apr 7, 2004 @ 1:06am

rinulh, there have been problems with the A716's button mapping in some programs (especially FPSEce). Therefore it is suggested that you edit the config (.cfg) files found in your FPSEce root folder and CFG folder (found in FPSEce root folder) to match the corresponding prefered button numbers:

Up: 38
Down: 40
Left: 37
Right: 39

Asus Launcher: 213
Asus Launcher (Hold): 197
Calender: 212
Calender (Hold): 198
Contacts: 209
Contacts (Hold): 199
Tasks: 210
Tasks (Hold): 200

Action: 13/134
Action (Hold): ?

Enter: ?
Enter (Hold): 201

Hope this helps. Also Morphgear 2.1.0.0 works fine without editing anything. Personally I find the D-pad to be quite sensitive so hopefully its got to do with the software and not the hardware.

I already found that info on the fpsece forums and had it working already, thanks a lot anyway ;)

What I mean is that, for example, on Breath of Fire 3, I can move fine on every direction, however, on games that need combinations of moves, like ryu's fireball, it seems that it's hard to make it work. I've tried it and they come out after several tries, however it's not as easy as on the A620, and mostly I have to perform the move slowly so that it registers correctly the combination, mostly because it seems harder for the A716 to register the angles (i mean, down-right position for example)

Otherwise, it's the only fault on an awesome machine, much better than the A620 imho if you get advantage of the features, and if you don't use fighting games much or even fpsece at all, it's the ultimate ppc right now (on, I'm biased :p )

About overclocking, I had my old A620 almost always at 472 mhz and never had a problem. It was even extremely stable on 530 mhz, but I didn't use it as much to save battery. Have in mind that Xscale is a processor meant to ve overclocked, so it's much safer than overclocking your desktop pc.
