Which Pocket PC Should I Buy?

Re: Which Pocket PC Should I Buy?

I'm planning on a 340MB Microdrive.. I've decided upon getting an Amigo 600c.. It's got the most options.

One thing, about the Microdrive, how many brands are there? I know iomega makes them, I IBM also does, correct?

-RaGe

Don't get a MicroDrive other than 1 GB. The lower sized ones don't use power efficiently, and thus drain your PPC, or possibly cause damage to it.
A MicroDrive is an IBM product, and ONLY an IBM product. But if you're getting an @migo, why not get the Kingston 2GB PC Card HD?

On that subject, what would u say uses the least amount of power (but still maintain an excellent read speed).

Any solid state RAM CF card. It uses no power unless reading, and it reads as fast as the onboard RAM.

I have an IBM Microdrive, but i'm really lookin for something fast but a lot less powereating. Unfortunately, CF's are so damn expensive. (Note I did not really say darn.) But It'd be nice to have a huge one.
If your PocketPC has a PC Card slot you can get a good deal on used PCMCIA flash cards. I got a 448MB for 180 bucks.

Its funny, I posted new about this back in the day, and two weeks later everyone at Brighthand was sporting their new PCMCIA flash cards. Before I opened my big mouth nobody else was bidding on them and I was gonna get a 800MB card. Well the prices went so high after that so I couldnt afford one:( they may have settled down again though, and yes I got it off ebay. Of course now I opened my mouth again, you better hurry:)

Those PC Cards take up more juice than a CF card. I'm not sure how much but it definitly would.

How do you figure moose? its still a solid state card like in CF, they just put it in a PCMCIA form factor.

Well, Goose. What would be the alternative? A CF Card w/PCMCIA adapter?

Because the data rate is faster, it has to send a stronger current through the device.

JoBung: no, guess whyLast modification: Moose Master - 07/07/01 at 14:23:21
