Re: Skinning the Today screen

i'm runnin the casio skin from some site i downloaded a while ago. I finnally went and downloaded Wisbar and dashboard. I should have dun this a while ago. I still like gigabar more, but the skins that interact with both wisbar and dashboard look nicer so i'll deal with the degrade in quality.

Hey, RavenRay. I don't like your Skin, but where did you get that battery monitor for the today screen?

Moose, its from the same people that made the registry editor at www.phm.lu. They just recently finished that battery and memory monitor.

Pretty sweet.

Your design uses elements I haven't ventured so much to play with: the flat isometric shapes which come at the viewer. I'm still stuck in 2-D isometrics, but reckon it's time I make the move. I'm still dabbling with rounded elements as well, but have kinda put them on the back-burner 'till this recent PM logo.

I like your choice of colors, but I think the Jpeg kinda drowned them out, I'd think that orange is a little more vibrant, like a futuristic display overlay.

A little tip I learned from studying Movie posters: Add a thin and ever so slightly transparent glow around your main text. White works especially well as the glow color, and should be your first choice to see if the effect will even work before you spend time finding a nice color. The idea is to create a soft outline around the text and the background to make it "POP", hehe, the old koots in marketing were crazy about things "Popping" off the front cover of books. I'm using this subtle effect on my Today screen on the page before this incase my explanation sucked as bad as I think it did ;)

Well, I used the Microsoft remote to capture the image. So of course, it didn't do a really good job of a screen capture. So giving that fact, it will drown out most of the colors tremendously. If look at the PPC, it really is better looking.

So, for us less daring types - any recommendations on sites where we can snag some
tdybnr.gif's and tdydate.gif's that you professional types have made? I know about the Pocket PC Today page but how about others?

Thanks,

Peter
