Actually, Jason is really weird.

With his perfect pitch, sometimes he'll pick up the phone and start speaking in squeals and screetches- like R2D2 or something. Seconds later a fax came through that said "randall is a dork". He even logged into his ISP like this and maintained an IM conversation with me.

my modem is a targus 56k cf modem. Ive been looking around and it seems alot of people are having problems with them

I have one of the first Targus 56K modems from 1.5 years ago. Casio e-125 with MSN as my ISP. I haven't had any problems. I don't have my device with me at the moment so I can't really help- but it was pretty easy.

well, internally the modems are basically the same. Only the newer modem is totally flat with an RJ11 jack that pops up.

I have the feeling we are making this more difficult than it really is, because the majority of PPC users aren't as informed and techno-smart as us. So installation of a widely used modem such as the Targus should be fairly straight foreward.

Of course, I haven't read through all 15 pages of this troubleshooting thread. So I don't know what has been tried yet, or what the real issue is. Maybe I should get readin'.

ha ha! SUCESS! (prolly spelled it wrong

) I am writing this on my ppc! Thank you for your help. I found out the problem was something really stupid. I tried to use my monster(tm) cable with my modem, and some of my settings were incorrect so it wasnt a waste of your time
