DosBox Compatibility Thread (hell..it works^^)

Postby Miracle » May 30, 2004 @ 2:20pm

I got Wolf3D to work, a bit slow/choppy, but after I read tubru's post about setting his CPU cycles to 1000 I think I am going to try that again :).

I tested Wolf3D with my Asus KB (wich is a bit hard, since DosBox is in landscape and my keyboard only supports portrait :P).

I am thinking about a way to make my kb landscape-compatible, but for now I only found a way wich is going to cost me a lot (since I want to keep my kb intact).

over at PDAi.org I posted some screenshots of Wolf3D :).

DPad IS working, only not in landscape mode (up/down/left/right are in the original positions, not for landscape).

I know that game! (Action Supercross)
I played that one a lot when I got it from a friend of mine, on a floppy disc :P.

Brings back memories :D.

Edit: Just tried the game on my PC running DosBox, and I can't get past the 'Please Register!' page. When I boot it in the normal DOS (dos-prompt from WinXP), it works like a charm... Any ideas?

Shadow of the Comet - Works, nice speed at 530 mhz, but for some reason can't move the main character

Alone i the dark 1 - Works but slow

Larry 5 - I mentioned it before, however I've been playing it a bit more and if you move the mouse to the upper side of the screen a menu opens with most of the actions available, which combined with the option to improve the speed in the config menu, makes it very playable indeed.

Ultima 7 - I can't make it work, if anyone made it please explain tia

King Quest 6 - works, slow even at 530 mhz. Has the menu on top screen that makes it at least playable though, and like Larry 5, on the config you can improve speed which makes it far more playable.

Ultima 8 - Crash to desktop

for Ultima 7, the end of my dosbox.conf file is :
"
[dos]
# xms -- Enable XMS support.
# ems -- Enable EMS support.

xms=true
ems=false

[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
mount c "\flash disk\ultima7"
c:
Ultima7
"
Then you just have to be patient because it's very slow (hit Escape on the first screen)

Thanks I'll try it now :)

Dark Seed - Works, but veeeery slow (at 530 mhz). Also no keyboard shows either with / without fullscreen, and in either case it doesn't fit correctly to the screen.

Here's a few more:

Dune- Works perfectly. I used to play this game alot 'back in the day', in fact it was my first CD-ROM game. And now I'm playing it on my PPC. How nostalgically cool is that? So, you could say I've been 'Duneing it up' recently (with Dune 2 also working perfectly)

Lure of the Temptress- Works perfectly. This is apparently a very good adventure game by Revolution Games, makers of Beneath a Steel Sky. They released it for free, and you can get it here: I can't get out of the dungeon in the beginning of the game, someone want to try it and give me some tips?

Igor: Objective Uikokahonia- Works great, slight choppiness but very playable. This is an adventure game that looks strikingly similar to a Lucasarts game. It is fun, despite the obscure title.

Martian Dreams- Works great. Adventure game by Origin, an 'Ultima: Worlds of Adventure' game which ironically has nothing to do with Ultima. Haven't played much of it but it looks promising.

4D Prince of Persia- Works great. Very smooth. This is the first action game I've tried that works and is playable. I was really suprised. I'm not sure why they call it '4D' but it is different from the original PoP. The controls are sideways, and the buttons don't work, but you can control the guy.

Warlords II- Works, but is sloooooow. Also, you have to set the res to 800x600 to see the menu buttons at the top of the screen, and everything is way too tiny. Not playable.
