WeightWatchers Points Calculator

WeightWatchers Points Calculator

Postby gartogg708 » Feb 28, 2003 @ 10:22pm

I am looking for a Points Calculator form PocketPC. In case you are not familiar with this, it takes the dietary fiber, calories, and fat grams from a food and calculates it to give you the number of points the food is worth. I have found one at a web site (at the bottom of the page) but I cannot find one for PPC. Is anyone out there interested in taking on a project like this. You might be able to get all of the info needed from that web page if you just look at the source code. I can do some html, but I have virtually no knowledge of scripts and so on.
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

Okay, it's done and works perfectly as far as I can tell. I don't know anything about WeightWatchers, but this 8.5KB application should allow you to easily and quickly find the WWPoint for any food you have around :D

However, I have no _good_ webspace to upload it to. Currently it's at
http://rain.prohosting.com/moosem/wwpc.html

Just download that then put it in your PocketPC's \Windows\Start\Programs directory and you're good to go.

I've never programmed in VisualBasic or for the PocketPC before, so tell me if anything is wrong with it.

Do you think I should sell this on PocketGear or someplace? I've seen worse things on those sites for sale.

Nicely done Moose. My wife wanted something like that. I installed another WW point calculator called PCalc and it was also free. Between them, my wife has what she wants.
A little rudeness and disrespect can elevate a meaningless interaction to a battle of wills and add drama to an otherwise dull day.

Did you just compile VB source code for this app in eVB? Or did you write it yourself?

Moose, you probably shouldn't have done that...

Last year I had a product out called PocketHealth, which included a Weight Watchers points calculator.

Long story short, I got a cease-and-desist letter from them and had to pull the product.

A number of other people have had the same experience. I tend to doubt anything would come of it from posting it here, but you never know.

Ya, that's what I was affraid of, but all it is is an equation. I'll just change the name to WaitWatcher's :/. But I'll welcome an email from WeightWatcher's asking me to delete it, it's no skin off my back.

Thank you HobbesAB. I'm strangely fond of my simple achievement as well. :D

TechMage, Just after my initial post I installed eVB on my laptop and programmed it in, source and all, 100% original. I had it ready in about 30 minutes and spent another hour trying to make an icon for it and trying to figure out how to make it an EXE unsuccessfully.. then dinner, and then upload.

I was thinking of maybe adding some database features such as average point value of what you eat and total points you've eaten today, but that would involve me actually learning eVB and I don't know about that. And especially if it's of legal questionability I doubt I'll invest time in it. But it even has a link to weightwatcher's.com within the program! oh well.

[Edit] Solution, Now it's called "WatchingWeight Point Calculator" ... think that'll fool em?

Be careful Moose... It's one thing to release it if you didn't know, but now that you are aware, they can now immediately jump to legal action because it's essentially a willful infringement. I wouldn't even play games with it for what little money it might bring in.

But that's me.

I'm not about to sell it. I was more making fun of some of the lame software that is for sale than seriously thinking about making a quick buck. All it is is a calculator, though, I don't understand why they could have a problem with it.
