How do I get pictures to appear in my post?  Do I have to store pictures on an online hard drive and link to them?

And why did my "do" have a smily in it?  Then I pressed modify and it left.  Is it a bug?

yeah. It's a bug. You have to have the files stored on a webserver somewhere. Free webhosts like geocities and anglefire don't work too well, so don't even bother.
