I'm going to start working on a new edition of the DVD to Pocket PC Howto, any suggestions for improvements?<br><br>Here is what I'm thinking of adding:<br><br>- DivX instructions<br>- WMV full screen instructions<br>- SmartRipper instead of CladDVD

Erm...tell how to split it up into 2 files so it can be higher quality if you haven't enough memory

WOW you can get WMV ins FULL SCREEN?!!! What bitrate, what res? Every time i try this it seams to cash at various bitrates.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the newest WMP supports full screen... you'd need a reasonable bitrate for it to be smooth though.. probably 180kbps video and 64kbps audio...  320x240

Yeah 30 fps doesn't work, you need 15 fps for good full screen...well i think but anywaaaay.<br><br>I have a question.  I encoded a music video at 30 fps, 320 x 240, 250 kp/s...It chopped up on my ipaq, so i encoded it to 15 fps, and the file it gave me was BIGGER than the other by .20 mebagytes.  Hey I was impressed though, becaue it was only 6.57 megabytes on Windows Media, compared to the 40 megabyte MPEG<br><br>Anyone have an idea why the 15 fps was bigger than the 30 fps?  I know the bitrate on the 15 fps was slightly larger, but that shouldn't affect it much with half the frames right?<br>

My wmv's always lag and i try to encode about 200k in that 176xBlank (QCIF) at 22fps. Why? this is pretty shitee quality with a good bitrate i shouldnt get any lag should i?

Well I know that.  Why wouldn't lowering the fps by half make the file half the size or improve the quality or something?

perhaps the file you were encoding wasnt 30fps to begin with?

and what 15fps does is still 30fps.. it just makes 2 frames the same at a time. So, you'd get some overhead. 23.976 would probably end up being a smaller size than a 15 fps one. Try it out. Make sure you sync the audio... Oh, and as matt pointed out, the original video may have only been less than 30.

Do you know Vidomi? Sure you know it. Du you think it might be possible to do the encoding with it?

I have found a program that is quite useful. It basicly takes the VOB's off the dvd and converts them to AVI's straight away. Its a bit like the mp3 rippers that go from CD straight to MP3.<br><br>Its called dvd2avi_gui.exe<br><br>You need the following to make it work though:<br>mpeg2avi+<br>ac3dec version 0.8.17<br>VirtualDub 1.3c or higher<br>ac3 codec-filters to listen to the avi/ac3 file.<br><br>I have not tried it yet. A mate e-mailed it to me but it seems pretty sweet!!<br><br>
