When someone says strategy game I would think of Argentum. When someone says 'space' strategy game I think of the removed Elite game, and the never to be ported Homeworld.

As a novice RTS player(few hrs) cant help being annoyed by the constant building you have to do in these games and placing a mother ship(which can build!) in the middle of all the actions.
In the Weber universe the main shipyards are realistically in the rear and travel time to send reinforcements from homefleet is of strategic
importance.
Ships dont just warp out of anywhere, they have definite warp junctions(kind of like gateways) infact discovery of an unknown junction behind the enemy lines can have significant strategic advantages.
The whole point is you do not get resupplied fast and
thats where the stratagy comes in, fighting against heavy odds.
But in the games is just mine build mine build mine....

..hehe forgive me Ill go finish the games first but I just knew the books will be better. :)
