From what I understand the Mario video wasn't filmed at fullspeed. The guy apparently played at 1/30th of normal speed and then changed it back to full speed for the video.

I don't believe that for a few reasons:

1- Sound is synched, playing it at 1/3 the speed would royally mess up the synch when sped back up to normal.

2- I have actually accomplished the first handful of levels using his patterns.

3- This guy is japanese, and if you've ever read Gamest Magzine (japanese game mag), you'd know that gaming to perfection is really an understatement there. You can find videos for every game with "perfect" play throughs in either time, or items. I've written about 20+ strategy guides, and I based all my formats on Gamest Mooks, and I can tell you, when it comes to games in general, there are no more thorough gamers than the japanese. I'm not stereotyping, just pointing out that games are further imbedded into their culture, and simply "playing them" doesn't satisfy thier level of dedication to perfecting it.

The video of SMB3, was made with an emulator and a lot of save states, but he is still very good.

It's more than possible to slow down the sound with it. I think it's real time though.
