Linux

Linux

Postby iLINUX » Dec 14, 2003 @ 9:47am

Well, I like Linux very much as my name poitns out. I hear Linux for the Axim can only run for 15 minutes then it crashes. Is there anyone willing to take research on this? Or are there any alternative operating systems. I really do not want to run Pocket PC 2003 it can be trashy at times.

Thanks

PocketPC OS/Mobile 2003 is going to be less trashy than what you're expecting linux to be on a ppc.

Do yourself a favor and just use wine to sync your ppc with your linux desktop. Not only will you 1. feel like you've beat billy G once again, but you'll 2. be able to say you're still doing everything in linux.

I'm not a linux hater, I have gentoox running on my xbox for cripes sake, and YES I use KDE so SHOOT ME... I'm just saying that even on a device with much more power than a PPC, it's still limited to nothing more than what you could already do on a pocketpc os. Sad, but true.

Organic Superlube? Oh, it's great stuff, great stuff. You really have to keep an eye on it, though--it'll try and slide away from you the first chance it gets.

it is possible to have a double boot solution on your (old) Ipaq (in fact I was doing this before I got a Zaurus), just put the Linux partition on a removable media and the bootloader handles that well (only problem is that the entire CE memory is deleted but well, you can make a backup to your card before switching to Linux :D)

As always (I think everybody interested about Linux on Ipaq knows this site but it can't harm promoting them a bit more) check out http://www.handhelds.org for more information

Yeah, the Sharp actually has quite a little niche community carved out for itself. I've seen lots of posts on other boards with active programmers looking to bring more to the zaurus.
