they say there are ways to create a custom battery charger from stuff such as AA's but I have yet find the info that people here have referred to........

Plug 4 AA batteries in serie, then it should work.
No, I've never seen that, I've never seen anyone drive their garbage out to the curb and bang the hell out of it with a stick. No, I've never seen that.
