Compact Flash Card Troubles :(

Just got myself a 64meg compact flash card, to my sorrow it was only 60 megs with nothing on the card.<br><br>Now for some reason when I go to my program/memory/storage card it says that I've only got 4 megs in use making the card 56megs?<br><br>Is there a program I can get to format the card?<br><br>Thanks..

WinCE uses an other data system: When - let's say Sandisk - says there are 64 MB on the Card, they count 1000 KB as one MB. In fact, 1024 KB are one MB and that's how Windows(CE) counts. And Windows95, 98, ME. Dunno, but I think 2000 also. And you are asked if you want to format the CF-Card when you insert it into the device.

Oh OK<br>however when i plug the CF-Card in the expasion jacket and then onto the i-paq it doesn't ask me to format?

there seems to be 4.26megs used for something but there is noting in my storage card folder?<br><br>is the CF-Card faulty?

Try searching the card from your desktop PC. The WinCE File Explorer doesn't show some files.<br>If there's nothing, try a soft reset.<br>If that doesn't work - ask Dan<br>;-)

Try plugging in the CF Sleeve to the iCrap, then turn on the iCrap, then plug the CF Card into the CF Sleeve that is connect to the iCrap. Then it will recognize it as being plugged in and should ask if you want it formatted. But why did you buy a CF Sleeve? Why not a PC Card sleeve and a PC Card-->CF adaptor, like the one that comes with the MicroDrive?

Yeah, the thing with the memory is normal. I have an 128mb card and the memory settings shows: "Total storage card memory: 121.97mb"<br><br>

Good thing you're not using a Crappiopiea <br><br>Anyhow, the extra space you cannot use is for the filesystem I reckon.<br><br>Just because I buy a 40gig HD for example, doesn't mean I have a full 40gigs to use.
