I have the psionIR modem, and really like it.

Firstly, it runs on it's own power, which is a nice thing. Secondly, it leaves my CF port open so I can listen to MP3s off my microdrive while surfin' the net, or talkin on Jabber with ICQ contacts

I sit back in my chair and leave the IR modem on the desk as well. I find you have almost 3 feet of signal strength.

The only downfall to this modem is it's stability. It's great for surfing, icq etc. however it's not good for online games of PocketQuake. The IR speed fluctuates too much to make the ping playable. Any CF modem on the otherhand can give you pings comparable to a winmodem for PC, 180-300. I had a Xircom CF modem before the Psion, and besides having a dongle, it was rather nice to travel with.

If you can handle the form factor, and only do "lite" browsing, the Psion modem is nice, otherwise, you're always safe with a CF modem.
