iPaq 'On' button pushed too far in?

So anyone else done this before? It's just kept going and now I can still see it but it can't be bent back from outside and opening it may spell 'B-R-O-K-E-N'. Other wise it works grand, and if it does happen my lil tip is you can still turn it on from your short cut keys, and then if you have it set right in the first place it will turn it's self off, although may be adjust the backlight to preserve power.

That happened to my iPaq as well. I opened it up and fixed it myself. The "button" is just a plastic dome that presses the "real" button underneath. There's a tab that comes off the side of the button (the shiny one you see) that holds it in place. That tab is glued to a post. That's where it comes loose - the glue fails to hold it on the post. I put it back together and put a drop from a hot-glue gun to hold it in place. it's worked perfectly since.
Now of course yours may be really broken, and require that piece of plastic to be replaced.

If you are intimidated by super-small electronics, or don't like dealing with itsy-bitsy pieces, or don't want to void your warrantee, then don't try it. If you do take it apart, keep track of the small slider-door at the bottom of your iPaq (the one that covers the battery switch). It will just fall out when you take the case apart. The spring assembly that works with the D-Pad can be very tricky to put back together. I can't remember if that had to be taken off / apart to fix the power button, or if I just did it for fun.

Dan East

My mates made up Jefferson County cause of my name sake, the Sheriff part was abit of flagrant poetic licence, and I live in Northern Ireland. Doesn't matter if I give my location away, who in there right mind is going to come over here!

But to you boys, I am Sheriff, so don't make me open a six-pack of whoopass on ya!
