I have tried to watch movies using Microsoft Media Player that are stored on a MMC card (64mb)and used some of them at original size and some compressed with Windows Media Encoder (to fit in 64mb) - these are the free downloadable films from Filmspeed.

They play OK but at times just freeze-up 5 or ten minutes into the movie.

I have tried several combinations of compression settings and available memory/storage settings but I still have this problem (sometimes 5 minutes into the film sometimes 45)this is very frustrating =(

I'm looking for any information on creating movies (audio/video codec versions? whatever) that are stable playing on an EM500 with MMC cards.

Also does this happen on CF cards?

Thanks,

Brian Kumanchik
I heard something about a low speed of the MMC cards that may be clocking up your pipe (or something that makes sense). Try going to Casio.com and downloading the latest update for your PPC.

i have am em500 with a 64 mb card on the way, i encode short films such as 405 the movie with wmp, and despite my em500 being overclocked to 64 mb playback is shite. MMC is also slow, patched or otherwise. The only thing to really do is wait for the 128mb SD to come down in price then put mpeg movies on that. WMP will not function properly below 200 mhz, and your ppc is concentrating on decoding too much too sort out mmc too.
mmc is a bit shite really. I want en E-125.

MMC isn´t as slow. In fact, it has a raw speed of about 2MB/sec. More than enough to play compressed video files, even DVD-like ones compressed a mpeg4 codec. Of course PocketPC isn´t able to handle such files anyways.
It turns out that casio MMC controler is pretty slow. Patching it with 1.01 helps, but you won´t get fast playback on video players.
I have heard SD cards doesn´t help very much in Casios, and they are four times faster than MMC.
Problem with WMP is because it will fill a cache buffer of the file, while playback it tries to maintain filled that cache, and fully refill it only if it´s empty. In teory, with a fast controler, it should never happen.

The iPaq profile settings for WMV format from Microsoft works pretty well on my @migo. I get near full frame rates without problems.

No one of my videos is playing without a glitch if stored on a MMC card. Perhaps it´s because you use very small res/low datarate videos ?
