I ordered one of those do it yourself silver slider kits from datanation, and I just wanna say...it sucks! First off, its made of some cheap ass plastic that makes it feel like you can break it just holding it. Also the paint on it started to chip within two days of owning it and having it in my holster on my belt. I had to spray paint the whole thing to get it back to normal. If your gunna get a SS spend the extra $ and get the modded one, the data nation DIY kit sucks.

I've read about the paint chipping. Can't you just remove all the paint?

I suppose you could. I simply spray painted evenly over it. If you remove all of it you will be left with a pale white/yellow ugly looking plastic.

I was about to get that kit... but now I might reconsider.

I can't order a silver slider, because my orignal CF sleeve is damaged, so I can't send it in to get converted.

I would get some really good silver enamel paint that is made for rough use. I forgot the name of the paint, it's like "Tough as nails" or somrthing like that.

And $50 for just a piece of plastic!! (No electronic guts)
let me repeat that...
SMALL PIECE OF PLASTIC FOR $50!

Gesh!

Talk to GM, depending on what part of your sleeve is damages he may be able to do his mod. Maybe snap some pictures to show him exactly whats damaged. Unless of course its crushed under a car, in which case your just screwed.

Yeah 50 dollars for plastic, and the bad news is that its not even quality plastic like the Compaq sleeves. If you bend this plastic at all it will break easily and in fact mine chipped the first day I had it. Also the spray paint didnt work, its coming off as well so I might try your enamel or hobby paint idea.
