recommend a stylus?

Postby Paul » Oct 30, 2001 @ 7:30pm

can anyone recommend a particularly good stylus? i'm looking for a small, preferably metal one. not too expensive though.

this is part of my 'bring pauls ppc to college' campaign - starting my computing project so i thought it'd be good to sketch form layouts, make databases (can we make access dbs?) on the ppc in... the library.

I keep hoping at some point Microsoft makes a pocket Access. Since they don't seem to be in a hurry to fill my wish list, I've tried a few of the third party apps.

abcDB: I'm currently using this one now. Sync's well with current databases and has a manual or autoform feature. Is ok but doesn't have a relational capabilities or a "make table" querry function.

HanDbase: this one is popular but I didn't like it. Didn't sync with Access but there are a ton of free databases on their website.

Pocket Database (from Pocket Innovations): I bought this one at build 1.0 and give a go every new release. Has trouble sync'ing with my current Access DB's and has some bugs. Support is very responsive but ultimately I never could get it to work with my stuff the way I wanted. In all fairness though, my main work database is a rather complicated miss-mash I've been refining for the past 6 years.

In all, it boils down to what works best for your needs which means you have to figure out what you want first. Have you thought about a switchable pen/pencil/stylus thing? I got one for about $20US. Works well, and this way I always have a pen...ya know?

Then you could ask the Library Girl to look at your stylus.... ;)

Its like all of this talk about Styli and cases are getting silly...

I have both, and I am very happy with them, I mean they aren't perfect, but I got used to it. Let me explain.

I have a Pilot Platinum switchable stylus. This thing rocks, but was expensive. Now, the case is Franklin case, small, but has a pen holder, velcro for the PPC, and credit card and money holder space. I carry it around, and I get some jokes about a "man-purse" made from time to time, but it is not much bigger than a wallet really. It is very convenient, and you get used to carrying it around.
