Heart Attack

I almost had a heart attack today. I was in my office with my iPAQ on the table, powering up. My foot hooked on the cable and wham to floor went my little friend.
I was ohshitohshitohshit but I picked it up and everything seemed normal. Chipped the paint a little on the bottom, but I turned it on and it was working ok. I started playing SimCity and everything was fine. Suddenly, the screen taps wern't accurate at all, so I saved and tried to realign the screen.
No dice. The screen was really wierd. When I tapped the top of the screen it was if I hitted the middle. The lower part was working fine, though. Soft-reseted and nothing. I was all ohshitohshitohshit again, but then I just knocked soflty on the side of the iPAQ and bingo, everything was normal again. Did the fall really screw up something?

Come on guys, maybe I exagerated, but I got really worried. You see, my iPAQ is a tool for me, and I'm fairly dependent of it at work. If I loose it, I'm in big trouble.
But back on topic. What's the chance that the spill caused serious damage?

Pretty high...

The thing isn't in a shock resistant case. If the fall was more than a meter, I would be concerned.

Call Compaq. When did you buy it? Warranty?

LOL, I thought you literally had a heart attack too! Last year in school, I was in the library, sitting on onw of the squishy chairs, with a million people around me, and I was playing PQ. Suddenly, someone (very stupidly) tried to climb over me by jumping (to get to the other space, the chair arrangement is weird), and he literally drop kicked my Casio out of my hands. I was like "ohshitohshitohshit" (same with the person that kicked it, because I was going to kill him). I picked it up about 8-10 feet away, and absolutely no problem was on it, not even a scratch or anything (this was when I didn't have a screen protector). When I turned it on, it said that "hardware is in use or something...", the usual message when the battery is low, I pressed OK, and that was it. Unfortunately, it is only time 'til all of our PPCs go on their roller coaster ride. Mine was drop kicked, and Werner's smacked the ground. I think mine had a funner ride, it bounced on the wooden armrests as it came down to the ground. It was amazing that the screen didn't crack, because it got some nice air. Does anyone else have a PPC destruction story?

Oh, RICode, mine was far more than a meter, at least 2-2.5 meters high, because he kicked it upward, and he fell backwards, and my PPC flew behind me smacking the chairs. That sucks Matt.. Were you able get it repaired ?

Speaking of spills thrills and chills.. does anyone know of a group that insures pocketpcs or screens ? I don't want to have to pay to replace my screen if it does break..

I know there used to be one that did cell phones/PDAs, then went out of business or just stopped supporting PPCs..

know of any companies ?Last modification: erth - 12/12/01 at 14:31:23
