What kind of file was it? Some files compress better than others. If a file was already compressed in some way (JPG's, MPEG's, etc) then you probably wouldn't notice much difference in size. Other files such as BMP's, have very little or no compression whatsoever to begin with, so they compress extremely well.

Having said that, it might still be worth trying other compressed file formats (RAR, Gzip, Ace, etc) to see if you could squeeze it down by a few more megs, if it was really necessary. I wouldn't expect any major differences though.

Well if your trying to compress somthing that's already been compressed there is very little change that it will be able to be compressed further.

Try compressing Gifs or jpegs, mp3s are the same. If you do try it will also take a very long time because the compression algorithum is trying to compress something that can't really be compressed any further unless the algotithiums used are very different. Eg a tarball that is used on nix's.

ASCII text is the best to compress you can almost half it in size.

Hope this helps and if I'm wrong sorry and someone please correct me.
