iPAQ H3900

Hey guys. Sorry I broke my vow of PM celebasy, it was working out really great for me. Maybe a small withdrawl symptom, for about an hour. Specifically irritability. But I got over it quick. And I'm generally in a better mood.

But I need your help on something. I'm planning on getting a new PPC, if all goes well it should be here tuesday. the iPAQ H39xx. I heard the bluetooth stack on the h3970 was poor, and I don't need integrated wireless. Plus I personally believe it's a technology that will soon be delegated to Digimon toys. But anyway, it's the iPAQ H3950 for me. And I found it cheap online so Staples is giving me their 110% price match, woohoo $50 off! And I REALLY like the Consumer IR that I can use on my entire home theater system from my iPAQ.

But I consider that the best XScale device, with many more pros than cons, espcially compared to the Toshiba. And the Loox, aside from not truly being available, doesn't offer features I want. If anyone cares to express their opinion that another device is better then you've got the rest of the weekend to persuade me and the rest of the PM community.

I'm looking at SD memory cards now and was wondering about their speed. Which cards are faster, better price, etc. In the end, it comes down to, is there really that much of a difference in SD card brands that price should be a consideration. I hear that Lexar Media is very fast, but is that twice as fast as SanDisk, or 33% faster? Is it worth the premium price tag. Should i go with the $130 256MB SanDisk ($60 off through end of august) or the $210 256MB Lexar Media SD card?
I remember seeing a webpage with memory card benchmarks, it was a digital camera website, but it's link was posted on Dale Coffing, I believe. Maybe someone remembers the URL?

Thanks for any and all information you can provide. On a purchase like this the smallest piece of information good or bad makes the price less scary.

You'll love the 3950, go for it. Can't help you with the SD card though, never used one. To expensive I just use my old CF cards with the sleeve.

iPaq $418 to 470
e740 $365 to 409

Well, I can get the prices down this low. Which is the better deal. I've been leaning towards iPaq all week and it's really great. I just don't see any great things about the e740 ... even built in WiFi isn't a big seller for me, and I already have a wireless home. If it weren't for the iPAQ's horrible D-Pad and history I'd be sold in an instant.

... no wait, scratch those prices. I found out Amazon doesn't like it when you use your own affiliate account :P. Refined prices:

iPaq $579 to 585
e740 $510 to 518

Are these good prices, can I go to sleep now. Or should I keep looking for better?

Id go with the iPAQ. The e-740 has its advantages (built-in Wi-Fi, CF) BUT, the screen is AWFULL. If you wnt mediocre expandability, nearly %100 compatibility with most all released software, and an awesome screen, iPAQ it is.

Yes, go with the iPAQ. The screen alone makes it a hundred times better then the e740. It's a wonderfull device, and I've had NO problems with it for once.

[edit]
If someone wants the address on where to buy it just let me know, I should have it bookmarked on my other computer.

There's not enough room to put PocketQuake2 on my 64MB device. When ActiveSync is running it takes up JUST ENOUGH program memory to prevent me from giving 47.8MBs of storage memory to the device. :/

I'm getting a storage card as soon as possible, though. Then I'll give you full suite of tests: PocketDivX SpiderMan, Quake2, IPS PocketSNES, etc.

If anyone wants me to beta test any XScale optimizations then I'm MORE than free. I might even redownload Imbedded Tools to see if there's anything I can figure out ... I'm sure much more knowledgable people are on the same job though. But I'm free to help optimize if anyone wants to use my iPaq.

I love it through and through, only thing I noticed is that screen taps can sometimes be delayed and left and right on the D-Pad are "clicky" like the other buttons (except up and down :/ ). Maybe I'll open 'er up and take out the springs? And it's much faster than my E-125, so what do I care if it's not faster than a device i've never used :D
