First, 5.02 is the latest and there for the recomended one you use. Second, 2 pass is allways better, especialy when working at such low bit rates. Also 2 pass will lead to smaller file sizes, single pass tends to bloat files past the set Kbit rate.

Now, why are you going to 240x320 again? are you pre-rotating them? most of us compress at 320x240 (ie normal 4:3 aspect ratio.. widescreen movies will be 320x180 or 320x160) and then use the players rotate mode to watch the movie in the correct aspect ratio (rotating makes you view the movie with the PPC on its side, aka landscape mode).

lastly, PPC's still use old serial chips.. (its the same chip that handels the infrared), so its impossible to get faster usb like speeds from them. the only way to upload files faster is a CF reader.

It makes much more sense to create the video prerotated (i.e. in VirtualDub) than it does to use PocketDivx to rotate on the fly because rotating with PocketDivx is very power-intensive. Though it is an option, it just doesn't make very much sense when you can evade the process entirely with a few mouse clicks in VirtualDub.

yes, what you do is setup a jobs list. first setup the avi for first pass, when you goto save the avi (which starts the rendering) click the check box in the file save screen that says "add to job list and defer processing". proceed to do the same for makeing the second pass. you can daisy chain multiple avi's useing this method. once all jobs have been created, goto file menu and click on job control.

press start and goto bed ;)

first and second pass avi can be named the same, second pass will overwite the dummy file first pass makes without asking questions.

It's not about aspect ratio, the aspect ratio is still the same, it's just rotating it. It won't squish the text or anything, it's simply rotating the image during encoding instead of during playback.

jeff, does DivX 5.01 make smaller file sizes with better quality?
