im going to update my ipaq 3800 tommrow just wondered if theres anything important i should know about and or avoid doing, should i use the serial plug aswell to make sure it stays connected?

You don't have to, the ROM update runs on the device itself. Just don't get impatient because for half of the ROM update there is no status indicator of any sort. It will soft reset once it is finished.

If you are talking about the Euu3 it worked fine for me. There is a short text file that comes with it that tells you everything you need to know.
