Hey all. Was just browsing the newsgroups when I came across a post mentioning that the Star Control II source code was made available for download. Anyone up for the task of porting it to PocketPC?
I don't know enough C++ to tackle this for now, but maybe someone with some spare time would like to give it a shot.
I found a site about it here:
http://sc2.sourceforge.net/
Also, this link is supposed to bring you staight to the code, but I was having problems getting to it:

Star Control II (sigh)

I have to say, this is my favourite game of all time, on any platform.
This project is a kind of mix of the IBM version and the more elaborate 3DO version. One effect of this is that it contains all the speech from the 3DO version (making it very large for a PocketPC). You may be able to get around this.
The other issue I see is the playability, especially in the action component (usually called the Super Melee). I can't imagine using my PocketPC controls to play it (especially since it would be landscape).
What do other guys think?

The screen looks like it's too large, so many interface changes would have to be made.

I went ahead and downloaded the PC version to see what it consists of. If you remove the speech and the extra OGG (music) files from the 3DO version, it becomes approximately 12 to 16 megabytes, give or take. Also, to clear up the resolution issue, it is 320x200. If you downloaded the PC version from that site, it defaults to stretch it to 640x480, but the game itself is made for the smaller resolution. Therefore, it would fit perfectly. Yay!

Strange, looks a bit bigger than that. Stuff might be a bit too small, maybe that's what I was seeing as not working great on the PPC.
