Version for Jornada 820

Postby futaris » May 7, 2003 @ 6:14am

PocketScumm build 05/07/03 0.4.0pre-1 works on the Jornada 820, but the palette seems to be screwed - probably because you're bitblt ing? or not using GameX. I haven't been able to get DummyGX to work with anything on the Jornada 820 (English). Does anyone know the definitive framebuffer address under Windows CE (Virtual?).

I'm not sure what display driver is being used. How do I tell?

scummvm.ini contains the following:
[wince]
BasePath=\Storage Card2\Kangz PocketSCUMM
DisplayMode=0
FMHighQuality=false
GamesDirectory0=\Storage Card2\Kangz PocketSCUMM\dott
GamesDirectory1=\Storage Card2\Kangz PocketSCUMM\atlantis
GamesDirectory2=\Storage Card2\Kangz PocketSCUMM\Monkey1
GamesDirectory3=\Storage Card2\Kangz PocketSCUMM\Monkey2
GamesDirectory4=\Storage Card2\Kangz PocketSCUMM\COMI
GamesInstalled=5
GamesReferences=15 13 0f 12 1b
GamesVersion=5
KeysVersion=3
Sound=false
SoundThreadPriority=2

I assume you're using GDI or bitblt or something? There is no GameX or DummyGX installed on the machine at the moment. :(

I've put some screenshots up at: - They're from a number of games, but not in any particular order.

yes, it should be using GDI as I have no direct video access information available for this device :(

you can check this by clicking the Pocketscumm logo on the launcher screen

I'm looking at DummyGX to see if the video buffer address can be retrieved ...

well, of course it cannot as it's given in the ini file and specific to the japanese model :evil:

guess I have to stick to the GDI or to try random memory writes (don't think you'll agree on that :wink:), if nobody found that magic value ...

Well, Doom4CE accesses the framebuffer memory directly... How it does this is another question.

No, it's not open source. :( It should be, but I don't know why Jimmy never released it.

Well the palette is definitely changing. Particularly when the LucasArts logo comes up. Colors seem to be inversed though or channels swapped??? Most of the colours are pretty much the same as pre1. Some more screenshots are up at

Hello Arisme, Futaris and all fans of Jornada 820.
Thank you for attempting to make this release for this great little handheld. :-)
Let's come to the subject:
I have the same result with pre1 than Futaris and the same with pre2 too:
Pre1 is finally better at this moment, because in pre2 all colors palette are changing in cycle in all the screen.
Unfortunately it's very very slow too. Looks like 2 Hz pictures :-(
But the sound seems good, I tried with the demo of Sam&Max you gave as link in one topic.
Maybe I should try another one, because I know Jornada 820 can be faster. Especially Doom :-)
I can't help with advices about GDI and such things I'm not familiar, but I'm ready to Test and to give all information I have.

Perhaps we can try compiling it against the Trial GAPI H/PC from BitBank?
