Is it possible to use a smaller tileset in this engine?

If you mean a smaller terrain tile dimension, yes, you can do that with the current state of the engine. If you mean have a smaller number of terrain types, I can add that to the list of things to do and implement it within a couple of revisions.

I presume you're thinking Smartphone and Symbian? Keep in mind the current tileset (terrain, fringe and pick) total only 50KB, so storage and memory usage isn't too much of an issue.
